But everything is just too quiet lately..

Nicolette rubbed her arms to keep warm, it was summer but the night air was still cool.. She hadn’t seen or heard much of anyone in about.. a week or so. Nicolette has been so busy, when she wasn’t moving she was touring campuses, everything went by in a blur..

She roamed the street aimlessly, trying to enjoy the summer while it was still here.. Nobody was out hardly, just little kids running around not really caring about a thing under the sun, one of them almost ran into her but she couldn’t help but smile, she’d do anything to be their age again. She sighed scanning the streets for a familiar face… 

Darry never planned for this. He never wanted this to happen. He would always love her. Maybe if his parents hadn’t died, if he wasn’t going to be in this town for the rest of his life, roofing houses, he would’ve let her. But Nicolette was made for more than that, they all knew that. Darry spun around as he saw her walk out of the kitchen and he followed her, pulling her arm, trying to explain why. He’d never been the one good with words. “Nicolette, I’m sorry.” What else was there to say. “You got more than this..” He gestured to pretty much everything. “If you stay here, this is all you get.” Darry finished, looking off. And he didn’t offer anything more than what he had now. He wasn’t a special guy, he wasn’t much of anybody. He was Darrel Curtis.

Nicolette spun around, her eyes wide, she snatches her hand free, without thinking that this was Darry, she knew he wouldn’t hurt her for the world. It’s just no one has ever touched her before, like that, ever. Her eyes studied his face as he talked. Nicolette waited a while after he finished talking, taking in everything, analyzing the situation, she slowly and tenderly placed a hand on his jaw line, turning his head slightly so she could look him in the eyes. She shook her head ” Darry, I don’t want more than this, I really don’t. I don’t need more than this. Just being here makes me the happiest girl in the world.” There was no other way to put it. Nicolette sighed and dropped her hand, ” If anything, I don’t deserve someone as like you. You’re the one who deserves more- deserves better. “
